An Introduction

Hi!  My name is Chance.  Here is a picture of me:

I am much friendlier than I look!
I am called "Chance" because I was kind of a mess when a nice man discovered me lying in his yard, wounded, underweight, and dehydrated.  He thought maybe I belonged to his neighbor-lady, so he called to let her know about me.

I did not belong to the lady.  HOWEVER.  Lucky for me that neighbor-lady was Karen Niemeyer, and she decided I deserved a second chance. Chance.  Get it?  She took me to the Thorntown Veterinary Clinic and they fixed me right up, though it did take a while for me to recuperate.  You can read the whole story here.

This library is a pretty cool place.  My coworkers have told me that I had an awesome predecessor named Tober who kind of led the way for me to become a Library Cat.  Of course, you all already know that, since I'm writing on his blog.  In fact, Tober was just featured in a book called The True Tails of Baker & Taylor, The Library Cats who Left Their Pawprints on a Small Town. . . and the World.  Author Lisa Rogak interviewed Tober last year, and when she asked him if there was anything else he'd like to add, he said "Being a Library Cat is one of the best jobs in the whole world.  If you are a cat and you have the opportunity to become a Library Cat, go for it!"

So I did.

The food here is great, the space is fantastic, and I love the abundance of belly rubs administered on a daily basis.  Tober had a pretty great gig.

I thought about making a Facebook page, but not everybody has Facebook--and I don't want anyone to miss out on reading about my great new life!  Then I thought about making my own blog page--but I think people should also have the opportunity to read about Tober, the Original Thorntown Public Library Cat.  He had some fantastic adventures!  So I hope no one minds me hanging out here adding to Tober's already awesome collection of blog posts.

Here's another picture of me.  I hear you can't have too many cat pictures on the Internets!

How I greet the people in the morning.
Now we've been properly introduced.  I can't wait to meet you all and share my stories with you!

Headbutts,

Chance

PS - Thanks to Tober's friend (and hopefully, now mine) Cauli Le Chat for a warm welcome!

Hi Chance, it's nice to meet you! I started reading Tober's blog because of him being interviewed for the "Baker and Taylor" book, and I am happy to see that you are continuing his legacy as the Thorntown Library cat! I work in a library in Morris County, NJ, and my human coworkers and I definitely think we should get a library cat too. Cats are cool!

Hi Chance - welcome to the blogland. We think that Tober would be thrilled to have a new trainee to warm his seats up at the library and keep the staff in line. We hope you enjoy your new job and new home.

Chance, we are so happy to meet you. We have missed Tober and wondered how Thorntown Library can survive without a cat. You're going to love it there!

I am one of the employees at the Thorntown Public Library and I must say Chance is very welcome here. He is a great public relations cat & an affectionate greeter! We all miss Tober, but I believe he must have sent this wonderful boy to us! Looking forward to many happy adventures!

I'm so happy that Chance has come to live at the library. Tober knew that he was loved and would be missed. I'm sure he sent Chance to help fill the holes in your hearts. I look forward to reading all about Chance's life at the library.

Welcome, Chance! We were hoping the library would find a new kitty, and you found them! Carrying on sweet Tober's legacy will be a great job!
We like that you are keeping Tober's name on the blog. Don't worry. We will learn to love you just the same, it's just an honor for Tober.
I think Tober will whisper to you to assist you adjusting. Only he might only do it at night because if the ladies and gents saw him it maybe will make them sad.

I am so excited about Chance! I loved reading about Tobers adventures, and it really hit me kind of hard when he had to cross the Bridge. Welcome and looking forward to following along!
