I am not a dog....

I am not a dog.  I am a cat.  Yet, for some reason Barb L. has it in her head that I can learn tricks like how a dog learns tricks.  Now to be clear, I can learn tricks, it's just that I won't.  Ever since she went onto the inter web and watched videos of cats doing tricks she's been dreaming of the day I'll do tricks for treats as well.  She's been trying to get me to "high five".  She gets a treat out and holds her hand out and waits for me to put my paw on hers.  And when I don't, she picks up my paw and puts it there herself, and then finally gives me the treat.  And I do not like my paws touched.  Nope.  Barb tried this several times in a row one morning, but I was not having it.  She may have told a few people that it would take me at least two years to learn to give her a high five.  But Barb is persistent, and really wants me to do this trick, so she may have tried to bribe me by promising me eight whole treats on the day I do the trick myself.  I told myself I wouldn't give in.  But here's the thing.  I really love treats.  Ever since I've been limited to just a few treats a day, my love for treats has only grown.  So while I may not want to do the trick, I really want a treat (or two or three).  And eight is a lot of treats to pass up, so one of these days I might surprise Barb by giving her a high five.  I'm putting the line down at "shake" and "roll over" though.  There are just some things I'll never do.  Unless there are more treats involved.  Until then, I will resort to my favorite way to get treats.  Stare at the treat drawer and look hungry, sad, and cute until someone gives in.

Waiting for a treat,
Chance

Global Cat Day AND National Boss Day

Coincidence?  I think not! The fact that Global Cat Day and National Boss Day coincide on the same day seems like even more evidence to me that cats really were meant to rule the world.  I mean, really, who doesn't want a cat for a boss?  Okay, okay, I know there are a few people out there who think that cats really wouldn't be suited for the job, but in my personal opinion cats make excellent bosses.  I have a feeling my predecessor, Tober, would agree with me.

Speaking of Tober and cats being bosses, I have been wondering something.  Tober, who was an amazing boss from what I hear, was promoted to boss of the library after working here for three months.  I have been working here for over three years and have yet to be promoted to boss.  Hmmm....  I do have cool business cards with my name, handsome picture, and title on them, but I have to imagine they would look that much cooler if they said "Resident Library Cat and Boss" on them.

Just an idea anyways.

I need to get out more....

It has been brought to my attention that I need to get out of the office more.  Apparently there are rumors circulating the library (hahaha a library pun) that I am not a real cat but am actually a STATUE!  I know I take lots of cat naps, but I didn't think I slept so much or so still that people think I'm not actually a real cat.
Do I look real to you?

While there is a statue of a cat upstairs that bears a striking resemblance of me (not near as handsome though), I would like to kindly remind everyone that the statue and I are not the same cat.
The impostor!
I'm going to have to do some more thinking on this, until then-

Happy Ginger Cat Appreciation Day!!

Happy Ginger Cat Appreciation Day to all my fellow orange cats!  Who knew there was an entire day dedicated to celebrating us?  (I'm finding out that humans will find just about any reason they can to celebrate.)  Did you know that we are considered to be one of the friendliest types of cats?  No wonder everyone likes me so much!
Who couldn't love this handsome face?

Apparently orange tabby cats also tend to, ahem, eat more than their fair share. Not that I've ever done such a thing, or been called overweight before.
Anyways, in addition to today being Ginger Cat Appreciation Day, September is also Happy Healthy Cat Month!  (I told you humans love to celebrate.  Not that I'm complaining though, more celebrations means potentially more petting!)
While I love the idea of a whole extra month to celebrate cats, the word "healthy" in the title seems a little suspicious to me.  I don't know about you, but whenever I hear the word "healthy" it tends to make me think of something unpleasant.  You guessed it- the V-E-T.  I have a sneaky suspicion that this whole "Happy Healthy Cat Month" thing is really a just way humans remember to take their furry friends to the V-E-T.
Well, regardless, I still plan on celebrating cats this month by taking some nice quiet cat naps and hopefully eating a few treats!

The Cat Days of August

Well, August is in full swing, summer reading is officially over, and the back to school hubbub has begun.  As a result of all that, there are significantly fewer people visiting the library now than during the summer.  This is a good and a bad thing for a cat like me.
The Good- Its much quieter for taking naps.
The Bad- Fewer chin scratches and tummy rubs from all the loving patrons.

Here I am staring longingly out the door wishing someone would come in and pet me.

Where is everyone?
Despite there being fewer humans around, I've still found plenty to do.  Just the other day I found a big black ugly bug and meowed at it till Barb got rid of it.  This is an extremely important job because Newbie Lillian greatly dislikes big bugs (she still has looooottss to learn, like how to give me a proper tummy rub) .  A couple days later something strange was in the trash, so I checked it out to make sure it was safe, or if it was possibly something delicious to eat!
/Sniff/ /Sniff/

I guess Alec thought I wasn't going to share whatever it was, because he moved all the trash into the trash can under his desk!
Seriously?

I never did figure out what was in the trash can, but I'm fairly positive it would have been tasty.  Oh well.

I'm Baaack!

I'm back (again)!  Things sure do get busy around here, and time has a way of flying!  I can't believe it's been almost two (2!) years since my last post!  That's approximately 24 years in cat years.  Speaking of which, we just celebrated Karen's 25th anniversary of working at the library!

Karen's great.  Boy am I glad she's worked here so long, otherwise she might not have found me such a great place to live.  One of my favorite things to do is wait each and every morning in the children's department, calling her name mournfully until she gets here.  I'm fairly positive it brings her here faster!

Waiting for Karen
If anything, it at least convinces the rest of the staff to feed me a few treats!
Eating a treat while I'm waiting
Well, in celebration of her anniversary the staff presented Karen with a plaque, and then celebrated with pizza, donuts, and cake.  But did they offer me any?  Noooope!  Since no one wanted to share, I decided to take a celebratory nap.  Several hours in, I was rudely awakened by the paparazzi for a picture of me and Karen with her shiny new plaque.
Why don't I have a plaque?

I wasn’t too impressed.   First no pizza, and then they wake me up from a nap!  I’m going to have to have a talk with these people.
