Whoops

Last night--February 20th--Hoodie Hoo Day--we had tornado warnings in central Indiana.

I'm afraid we Hoodie Hooed too hard and broke the weather.

We really just wanted all of the snow piles to melt!  So the library staff Hoodie Hooed extra-loud this year and Dr. Shank and his staff even came to the library to help.  Then the weather turned 56 degrees and it rained and all of the snow tried to melt at one time, which turned ditches into rivers and yards into lakes.

So I'm sorry for all of the trouble that Thorntown Public Library has caused.  Maybe next year we'll just have one cake.

Here is our photo that was on the Front Page of the Lebanon Reporter today:

"Local Library Responsible for Turbulent Winter Weather"
Laila and Minchie said that they were looking forward to our Hoodie Hoo video.  Well.  Let me just tell you all about that:

AB Used-To-Be-Photographer Christine decided that she would just make a movie of Hoodie Hoo since Mr. Rod Rose from the Lebanon Reporter was photographing the Momentous Occasion.  Christine checked her camera to make sure the little "video" thing was selected like a good documentary filmmaker.  The thing she didn't realize was that she accidentally hit the take-a-picture button when she was fiddling around with the camera.  So she filmed everything BEFORE and AFTER Hoodie Hoo (like her feet, and Mr. Rod Rose's feet, and her sweater, and the railing, and a lot of sidewalk) and captured precisely ZERO minutes of Hoodie-Hooing.

After a vote of No Confidence, my staff  and I have decided to rescind her Hoodie Hoo photography/videography privileges, which means she'll have to appear in the Hoodie Hoo photo and/or video, arms a-flappin', for the first time EVER in 2015.

She did get a good photo of Dr. Chris Shank and his staff:

Hoodie Hoo Part Two!
We thought about pinning the tornado-y weather on them but that wouldn't be very nice. We all had good intentions.

Since this winter has been especially cold, snowy, and miserable, we decided we needed to make buttons for anyone who participated.  So if you live in Boone County, Indiana, and you woke up this morning to find your lawn furniture in the neighbor's yard, look for someone wearing one of these:

After the yelling and waving, everyone went back into the library to have Cake(s), Pink Lemonade, and Sunshine Salad.

Thank you for reading about our 10th Annual Hoodie Hoo Day celebration.  I, as usual, snoopervised the library while all of the staff and library visitors were outside making a racket, because that's what good Bosses do.

Besides that, in here it's always spring-time!  When I get a chill I just find a nice warm chair, planner, or stack of paper to relax on.

Purrs, Headbutts, and Apologies for all of the Thunderboomers,

Tomorrow = Hoodie Hoo Day!

You guys!

We have got to get rid of this nasty "winter" stuff.  I have had to deal with the whiningest complainingest bunch of employees.  They come in all frozen with rosy cheeks and drippy boots and have to take off their gloves and hats and scarves and drippy boots.  Then they go on and on and ON about the cold, the snow, the wind, the ice, the bad roads, etc. etc. etc.  Way too much of this occurs before I receive my proper greetings, which are chin and head scritches, tummy rubs, and treats.

Well, thank goodness tomorrow is Hoodie Hoo Day and we can get rid of this awful winter business forever.

Everyone (except me) will be going outside tomorrow at Noon Sharp to flap their arms around and yell Hoodie Hoo!  Hoodie Hoo! at this stupid winter weather.  Then they will all come running back into the library to have Pink Lemonade, Rainbow Layer Cake, Sunshine Salad, and aNOTHER kind of cake for AAB Barb L's birthday!

After eating all of that sweet stuff, the flapping and running will be a distant memory.  I betcha I'll catch a few of them napping and/or holding their bellies and wishing they'd shown a little more restraint.

Me, I don't do sweets.

I'm sweet enough as it is!

Remember to Hoodie Hoo on February 20th and Noon Sharp!

Hoodie Hoo!

I've got my eye on you.

Sometimes I have to be all sneaky-like when I'm snoopervising my staff.  I mean, when I make a big production of checking up on them, they get busy typity-typing and using the phone and writing things down and stuff.  That's what people do when The Boss comes around.

Here I am making sure AAB Britta is working hard on the OverDrive class we had last Thursday:

Obviously she is NOT working hard on the OverDrive class, but is instead goofing off with her camera phone thing.  I will forgive her, though, because it's hard to concentrate on PowerPoint slides when there's such a handsome Mancat nearby.

Watchful purrs,

This is why we can't have nice things.

Happy beLATEd New Year to all of my faithful readers!

Actually, Merry Christmas, too!

I am behind in blogging.  Actually, to be truthful, AB Christine is behind in blogging.  She is supposed to be helping me, but she keeps having vacation time and Bored Meetings and snow days and stuff.  Excuses, excuses.

There's been a pattern of this bad behavior going on for years now!  Thankfully she is still very good about tummy rubs, hugs, treats, and head-boops--otherwise I would have fired her long ago.

I mean, just look at what I have to work with here:

There are more where this came from.  Hee hee!
This is an old Blackmail Picture from AAB Britta's camera.  (I'm having to resort to using 2-year old photos because AB Photographer is too lazy to grab a camera when I do something awe-inspiring.  Which happens about three times per day.)

I'm pretty sure that the Library Bored hasn't seen this picture.  I mean, would you hire this person to run a library?  I'm not sure I would hire her to refill my food dish!

In her defense, this was probably taken during Festival of the Turning Leaves/Book Sale/Carpet Cleaning/Mess Week. She is obviously personifying the "Mess" part.

Oh, and look who she hired to be a Children's Librarian:

Welcome aboard, matey!
A pirate.  A pirate named Barb.  (Or "BARRRRB" on Talk Like a Pirate Day!)  Pretty sure the Library Bored doesn't know about this photo, either.

In HER defense, she is dressed up for her Adventure Story Time program that was held yesterday.

Now that it's 2014, my library has been super-busy as we prepare in many ways to celebrate our Centennial.  We are 100 Years Old this year!  We have a special Centennial Quilt in the works, and the children have a read 2,014 Pages in 2014 challenge, and one of our American Girl Book Club participants has written a play that commemorates the founding of our library.  We're taking pictures of all of the children who sign up for 2,014 Pages in 2014, so the photographer's camera is living in the Youth Department for now.

So that's why the blogging around these parts is pretty sketchy.

Sorry I've junked up this post with pictures of humans, especially weird-looking ones.  Here's a picture--and oldie but a goodie--to tide you over until AAB Photographer (1) gets her camera back and (2) actually USES her camera again.

Supervising Computer Class set-up.
Oooh, here's a better one:

You can see my 'tocks.
Hope everyone is staying safe and warm!

Until next time. . . whenever that is. . .

Brave

Friends, fame has been very tiring for me!  Here I am napping the Youth Department after all of the Baker & Taylor Cat Calendar excitement.  My library staff also made my Calendar cover the front of our 2013 library Christmas card, and I'm on the front page of the Friends of Thorntown Public Library, Inc. newsletter (again).  I have to take these frequent naps to preserve my Handsomeness for future photo shoots, you know?

ZZZzzzz. . . .zzzZZZZzzzz. . . ZZZzzzz
Now--long-time blog readers will know that my library is home to two big dead birds.  One is a juvenile (but still ginormous) Bald Eagle.  The second one is a Red-Tailed Hawk that was given to us by Ronald Johnson, the Boone County Conservation Officer.

These birds are sometimes almost as popular as I am!  There are children who go to the Upstairs when they visit the library just so they can see the Eagle and the Hawk (I'm sure they've already seen ME in the Youth Department, of course).

Well, Mr. Johnson brought a new critter by yesterday.  Thank goodness it wasn't another dead bird.

Rrrowrrr!
This is Bob the Bobcat.  She was hit by a car (boo!) in Carroll County Indiana before becoming an attractive taxidermy display.  We have her under a glass case now, but AB Photographer took some pictures before we covered her up.  (The staff seem to think that little ones would want to pet her!)  Of course, I wanted to check her out to see if I thought she was worthy of library display:

*sniff sniff sniff*
I gave Bob a good sniffing.  See how I'm not the least bit afraid even though she's got her battle-face on?  My staff ladies sure thought I was one Brave mancat!

Here's another view of Bob.

I decided that Bob is no threat to my Librarycatdomhood and so may stay at the library for a month or so.  I am absolutely unimpressed with her bigness and ferociousness.

The "Back of Disrespect" or the "Back of Trust"--which is it?
(Okay, I'm a little impressed.)

Thank you Boone County Conservation Officer Ronald Johnson for bringing another dead animal this beautiful Bobcat to my library.  Maybe I'll get to relax a bit while everyone is admiring Bob!

Exhausted purrs,
