Whoops

Last night--February 20th--Hoodie Hoo Day--we had tornado warnings in central Indiana.

I'm afraid we Hoodie Hooed too hard and broke the weather.

We really just wanted all of the snow piles to melt!  So the library staff Hoodie Hooed extra-loud this year and Dr. Shank and his staff even came to the library to help.  Then the weather turned 56 degrees and it rained and all of the snow tried to melt at one time, which turned ditches into rivers and yards into lakes.

So I'm sorry for all of the trouble that Thorntown Public Library has caused.  Maybe next year we'll just have one cake.

Here is our photo that was on the Front Page of the Lebanon Reporter today:

"Local Library Responsible for Turbulent Winter Weather"
Laila and Minchie said that they were looking forward to our Hoodie Hoo video.  Well.  Let me just tell you all about that:

AB Used-To-Be-Photographer Christine decided that she would just make a movie of Hoodie Hoo since Mr. Rod Rose from the Lebanon Reporter was photographing the Momentous Occasion.  Christine checked her camera to make sure the little "video" thing was selected like a good documentary filmmaker.  The thing she didn't realize was that she accidentally hit the take-a-picture button when she was fiddling around with the camera.  So she filmed everything BEFORE and AFTER Hoodie Hoo (like her feet, and Mr. Rod Rose's feet, and her sweater, and the railing, and a lot of sidewalk) and captured precisely ZERO minutes of Hoodie-Hooing.

After a vote of No Confidence, my staff  and I have decided to rescind her Hoodie Hoo photography/videography privileges, which means she'll have to appear in the Hoodie Hoo photo and/or video, arms a-flappin', for the first time EVER in 2015.

She did get a good photo of Dr. Chris Shank and his staff:

Hoodie Hoo Part Two!
We thought about pinning the tornado-y weather on them but that wouldn't be very nice. We all had good intentions.

Since this winter has been especially cold, snowy, and miserable, we decided we needed to make buttons for anyone who participated.  So if you live in Boone County, Indiana, and you woke up this morning to find your lawn furniture in the neighbor's yard, look for someone wearing one of these:

After the yelling and waving, everyone went back into the library to have Cake(s), Pink Lemonade, and Sunshine Salad.

Thank you for reading about our 10th Annual Hoodie Hoo Day celebration.  I, as usual, snoopervised the library while all of the staff and library visitors were outside making a racket, because that's what good Bosses do.

Besides that, in here it's always spring-time!  When I get a chill I just find a nice warm chair, planner, or stack of paper to relax on.

Purrs, Headbutts, and Apologies for all of the Thunderboomers,

I get bonus Adorable Points

Friends, I think we might have Hoodie-Hooed a little too hard on February 20. We did not intend to skip Spring and head straight into Summer, but that's what the weather is like here!

One good side-effect of Early Summer is all of the sunpatches lying around in the library. There is a particularly good one in the YA room every morning.

Once I'm warmed up by the sunshines, I really get a hankerin' for a good bellyrub.

Oooooh, here comes a potential bellyrubber right now!

Present the belly in the most irresistible fashion possible:

Notice how I maximize the rubbable area by (a) pulling my front feets up way high and (b) stretching my hind legs waaaaaaay out behind me. This makes my pettable surface area approximately 90% belly and chestal region.

Now, start rolling, dragging, stretching, purring, starfish pawing, and generally looking irresistible. How do you do this?

I know it looks like a whole lot of cuteness is being rewarded with not nearly enough belly-rubbing, but rest assured, I got LOTS of petting for that display of adorability.

Do any of you have any special belly-rub solicitation techniques?

Happy Friday!

Goodbye, Winter.

It has been a weird, weird winter in the Land of Indiana, my friends. We have had rain and snow and ice and sunshine and wind and fog and even thunderboomers!

Well, Weird Winter Weather, the folks at Thorntown Public Library have had enough. We banish you.

My Library Staff amd customers and lunch friends have again celebrated Hoodie Hoo Day. For those of you who are new to my blog, Hoodie Hoo Day is a strange human custom. On February 20, at noon sharp, humans bravely venture outdoors and flap their arms and shout "Hoodie Hoo!" Then, exhausted, they hurry back inside for pink lemonade and cake and ice cream.

Isn't this an intimidating-looking bunch?

If you haven't tried Hoodie Hoo Day in your town, I highly recommend it. Usually Hoodie Hoo Day takes a little while to have an effect. Well, this year after Hoodie-Hooing, I looked up the weather forecast for Thorntown. Check this out:

We did it. We struck fear into the heart of Winter! (I don't know what that Friday nonsense is about. I think we should skip it.)

Now, I'm sure you noticed that I am Missing from the Hoodie Hoo Day Picture. This is because I am an Inside Only, Not to Be Removed from This Library type of Library Cat. After all, if the rest of my staff and customers are outside banishing Winter, who will answer the phones?

Now, I'm going to do something I've never, ever done before. I had AAB Photographer switch her camera to video mode during the Hoodie-Hooing. The act of Hoodie-Hooing has never been caught on film before--at least not in Thorntown.

Brace yourselves. We just saw what this menacing group of Library folks did to Winter. You may want to cover your eyes with your hands--or paws--or have someone sit with you while you watch this video:

You should bookmark this video in case your town doesn't celebrate Hoodie Hoo Day. This way you can play it promptly at noon on February 20, 2013 and maybe my Thorntown gang can help you get rid of your Winter(s) next year!

Just another service offered by Thorntown Public Library,

Hoodie Hoo!

Humans again celebrate weird Hoodie-Hoo custom.

If you will recall, last year I blogged about this very weird Hoodie Hoo custom that my staff people and their lunchtime friends participate in. You know, the one where they go outside, flap their arms, and shout "Hoodie Hoo" at nothing in particular? This thing normally happens on February 20 each year (which is about the time that people in Indiana get sick and tired of winter and cold and snow and corn stubble).

This year they tricked me.

Today is February 19, which is Hoodie Hoo Day Eve. But at lunchtime, while I was busy having a refreshing Nap, they went outside and made a big racket. Luckily AAB Photographer (useful for once) was commanded by my Assistant Boss Valentine Karen to go outside in the cold and take a picture of the Thorntown Division of the American Army of Hoodie Hooers in the process of chasing Winter away.

They are a formidable bunch:

Be afraid, Winter. Be very afraid.
My staff explained that since it has been a particularly snowy, miserable, cold, snowy, bleak, awful, frigid, snowy winter, we here at Thorntown Public Library are going to Hoodie Hoo two days in a row. . . to be certain that Winter gets the point.

So, Blogging Cats--let all of your people know that Saturday, February 20, at noon sharp, they need to go outside, flap their arms, and shout Hoodie Hoo so we can get rid of this nasty Winter! Afterwards they are entitled to cake, ice cream, and pink lemonade (none of which was offered to me) because flapping about is quite exhausting.

(Well, they can do it. I chase away winter by staying in a climate-controlled building all year.)

Hoodie hoo!

People are strange.

Today the library staff and customers behaved very strangely.

Everyone was working just like they're supposed to (most of them in their assigned places), when suddenly everyone got up, went Downstairs, and walked outside (where it was very cold). It was weird.

Then they all started yelling and flapping their arms. Even weirder. That must have tired everyone out, because they came back inside and had cake, ice cream, and pink lemonade.

I found out later that they were celebrating some odd Human holiday called Hoodie Hoo Day. Apparently, Humans have the ability to chase winter away. I think that maybe I should be Very Nice to the Library staff and customers, since they may possess other Super-Powers that I don't know about.

They do this on February 20th every year, and I guess it works, because winter eventually goes away.

Today I tried Coffee for the first time. In case you did not know, most of my Assistant Assistant Bosses run on Coffee, kind of like how cars run on gasoline. They show up in the morning sometimes very droopy, but they perk up and run for the meeting room when one of them says, "The Coffee is ready." (The AABs who do not like Coffee seem to run on Chocolate instead.)

So I tried Coffee today, but I didn't really mean to. Assistant Boss Karen had a cup on my desk, and I was thirsty, so I took a drink. I thought it was my water cup. It should have been my water cup, since it was on my desk, right in front of me.

I don't think I like Coffee. Karen, Linda, and Christine seemed concerned that the Coffee would make me go crazy and skip my afternoon nap, but it just made me wash my face off and have a drink of water to get the bad taste out of my mouth. I licked some popcorn, washed my face some more, and took a nap.

I also had a close call with Ritchie, our new Custodian. He is a Nice Person, but he runs the Vacuum, which is this horrendous machine that they use to suck things off the floor. He was coming to my office to run the Vacuum, and I was leaving my office because I do not want to be trapped in a room with that horrible, scary, noisy thing, and we ran into each other. I didn't mean to startle him, especially since he's already (very unfortunately) Allergic to the Majestic Feline Species. I guess it's because of the awful Vacuum-running that I don't make him sneeze.

Because you have been deprived of a fantastic photo of me for over a week, I will leave you with this:

Can you see me? You might think that I am Very Brave to climb so high, but it is funny to hear the Library staff run around and say "Tober! Tober! Where are you?" when I'm up on a shelf relaxing.

Hoodie Hoo!
