Garden Tobers

Some of you may remember Garden Tober. He lived in the Library's Secret Garden for a very long time.

Well, I am Sad to report that Garden Tober has been replaced. He was mortally wounded while defending the Garden from Ice and Snow. (Actually his ear broke off and he looked tacky so AB Karen said to put him in the trash.)

I commanded that my staff replace him so that I was properly represented in the Outside World. They brought a very handsome concrete cat for the Garden and put my "Tober" necklace on him.

But then one of my AABs looked out the window this morning and saw this:

What happened here? Did someone covet my beautiful necklace? Were they trying to make Garden Tober II look goofy? I made AAB Photographer go out and put the necklace on properly. Soon I will contact CSI: Thorntown to discover who perpetrated this shenanigan! I will fine them one (1) skid-load of Temptations--the catnip flavor ones--and two (2) ethernet cords for their misbehavior!

But until then I will look handsome and purposesly not-pose with my picture:

How long do you think it would take me to eat a skid-load of Temptations? How many are in a skid-load?

Doing lots of maths,

Tober

The Garden kids have arrived!

Now my Garden has a sculpture of children reading in it. . .

Shhhhh. . . they are trying to READ!
. . . and this is how they looked to me from my window in the YA room yesterday. . .

Yoo-hoo! I see you!
Right now they have been moved and are leaning against a wall in the Garden. My Assistant Boss Karen stopped by to see me this morning (hooray!) and decided they should move for a while because they are a bit tippy. (They were probably fine, but she wanted to hide the fact that she came here to the Library just to see me. She did not want the other Staff to get Jealous.)

My Karen said she has talked about me every single day that she has been away at this Fair-thing, and that people even asked about me when they see her! Tomorrow she is coming home to work at the Library and I am super-excited! I will get Treats again! And I will fling apples and pencils about in celebration!

Me with a mousie. Get it?
I cannot remember if I've posted this picture before but my new pictures are stuck in the camera (Upstairs) and my Photographer (Downstairs) is too lazy to get them out for me. So I am posting this one because even if you have seen it already you will surely appreciate how nice and glowy my furs look in the sunshine!

Radiantly yours,

Tober

My Garden

At my Library we have a Secret Garden:

My photographer is behind the times. That wood door is painted GREEN now.
I have infiltrated the Secret Garden and placed a decoy inside.

I am handsomer, but this guy is stuck wearing the necklace!
The Secret Garden is inspired by the 1914 book The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Soon it will contain a sculpture of two children reading, as well as a bird, a fox, a frog, and a bunny-rabbit. It has lights in it, and benches, and plants and flowers that were mentioned in the book. People can borrow the Garden if they want to read or eat lunch or have a little gathering (but they have to give it back when they are done).

I like to spy on people when they are in the Garden. This is part of my Library Security Position. The Young Adult Room, in which Britta (my YA Librarian) recently installed a perfect Tober Nook, overlooks the Garden, so I can see what people are up to in there.

Here I am relaxing in my Nook. Thank you, Britta!

It's hard being this handsome.
By the way, I am a little upset with my Assistant Boss Karen because she ran away from the Library to join the Boone County Fair. I was so lonesome today that I walked all the way to the other end of the building to get some company! I'm thinking Cathie and maybe Bonnie have a slight chance of getting Vacations reinstated. Karen will have to work Sundays when she comes back.

Fair-ly,

Tober

Real Man-Cats Wear Necklaces. . .

. . . but only for a very very short time.

Yesterday I was minding my own business (as usual), taking a nap (as usual), and having dreams about a warehouse full of office furniture. (Each desk had an apple placed on the very corner, ready for me to fling across the room.)

Anyway, I had some Very Nice Young Ladies come to visit me, so I almost fully woke up to greet them. They had a gift that they had made for me. I didn't know what it was, until they scooped me up and slid a Necklace around my neck!

A Necklace is like a collar, only they are usually worn by girls and ladies!

I did not like it one bit. I mushed my head back as far as it would go, trying to make my neck disappear so the Necklace would have to fall off. This made everyone laugh at me! Boy, I was M-A-D. They called me "cute" while they petted my laid-back ears. Because I am a Gentleman and a good Boss, I did not hiss or growl at them.

They put me down on the ground, and I ran for Bonnie's desk. Then I tried to go in my litter-box, but it hadn't been scooped yet, so I panicked and looked around for a good spot. This is when Christine finally came and took the Necklace off of me. (For once she did something useful.)

Then we took a picture:

Mad and upside-down.
Notice how they are very Happy while I am very Un-happy. Also notice that I am upside-down.

At first I was very mad about the Necklace because I thought Necklaces are for girls and ladies. Then I looked in some Library Books and saw pictures of kings from way back when wearing Necklaces. I have decided that Necklaces are appropriate attire, since I am the King. . . er. . . Boss of the Library.

I still do not want to wear one, though.

I have given my Necklace to a cat who lives in My Library's Secret Garden. I would post a picture of him now, but my Photographer has grumpily refused to go outside in the rain.

King of TPL,

Tober

PS--I do think my Necklace is very nice-looking. The cat in the Garden doesn't seem to mind it.
